The O’Fallon Kiwanis Club is a group of local volunteers that is changing the community one child at a time. Activities of the Club include sponsorship of Key Clubs in local high schools and Builder’s Clubs in local middle schools, cleaning up the streets of O’Fallon and supporting the O’Fallon Police Department’s Safety Town Program. Members raise money to give away as Scholarships to high school seniors, donate books to children to enhance literacy, and work to help the Salvation army. The project we are raising money for now is for the Boys & Girls Club. We need to put in new playground equipment for them. Currently we are meeting online via Google Meeting or Zoom the 1st Thursday of the month. Once we meet in person again, come join us for Lunch the 1st & 2nd Thursdays of the month at J.J.’s Restaurant at 200 S. Veterans Memorial Parkway in O’Fallon. Kiwanis Clubs all over the world have worked for the past 5 years to save babies from a dreaded disease called Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT). This disease kills one baby every eleven minutes — that’s 60,000 babies every year who will never grow up, make their mothers laugh, play with friends or dream about the future. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. A significant number of mothers die from MNT each year too. The O’Fallon Kiwanis Club raised over $16,000 to help eliminate MNT and the Club for this cause.
